A Realistic Look at AEM’s New AI Agents: What Do They Actually Do?

TDS blog post cover image

Adobe has been rolling out a suite of built-in AI agents inside AEM as a Cloud Service over the past year. If you’re running a busy marketing or product team, you’ve likely seen the announcements, but finding the time to figure out what is actually usable right now is a different story.

Instead of the usual marketing hype, here is a quick, practical rundown of what each agent does, how they impact your day-to-day operations, and what it takes to get them working.

The Four AI Agents on the Field

1. Brand Experience Agent

This agent is built for the high-volume, repetitive content grunt work that bogs down your internal teams—things like bulk page updates, keeping copy consistent across a massive site, or pushing out multi-page campaign refreshes.

It handles tasks that aren’t technically difficult but eat up dozens of manual hours when spread across hundreds of pages. You give it a plain-English instruction, it executes across your specified content, and your team simply reviews the output before anything goes live.

2. Content Advisor Agent

Think of this as a data-driven recommendation layer built directly into the authoring experience. When a marketer is building a new landing page or campaign, this agent surfaces existing assets and copy approaches based on actual performance data (like click-through rates and engagement metrics).

Instead of relying on gut instinct or tribal knowledge about what worked last quarter, authors get real-time, data-grounded suggestions while they are actively creating.

3. Content Optimization Agent

This agent focuses heavily on asset management and images. Using Adobe Dynamic Media, you can describe what you need in plain language—"resize this for the mobile app banner, swap out the background to a solid neutral, and adjust the crop."

It applies those transformations automatically. It’s an incredibly efficient way to produce multiple versions of an asset for different digital channels without routing every minor tweak back through an overworked design queue.

4. Governance Agent

From an operational and compliance standpoint, this is arguably the most valuable agent of the bunch. You feed it your existing brand guidelines—whether that’s a slide deck or a 50-page PDF—and it converts those rules into a set of automated checks that run continuously in the background.

Rather than relying on periodic, stressful manual audits to catch off-brand content, the validation happens automatically. It flags compliance issues on the fly, explains why something didn't pass, and suggests the exact correction needed.

A Few Realities Worth Knowing

While these tools are incredibly powerful, they aren't a "plug-and-play" miracle. There are a couple of practical hurdles to keep in mind:

  • Cloud Service Only: These agents are exclusively available on AEM as a Cloud Service. If you are still running AEM on-premise or on an older managed service model, you won't have access to them.
  • The Setup Setup: Getting these agents properly configured—connecting them to your specific content structure, importing complex governance policies, and wiring up Dynamic Media correctly—takes a level of technical setup that is easy to underestimate.

Because we operate as a nearshore agency, this "last mile" of implementation is exactly where we spend a lot of our time with AEM clients. We sit right in the pocket between your high-level marketing strategy and the deep technical execution required to make these tools actually work for your business. Because we operate in your time zone, we keep the process collaborative and transparent, ensuring you get real ROI out of Adobe's new features without the typical integration headaches.
